Why hair hygiene matters
- Your scalp is skin too. Just like your face, your scalp needs regular care to maintain a clean, balanced environment.
- Your hairbrush collects more than hair. Oils, dead skin cells, bacteria and styling products can build up between the bristles with everyday use.
- Clean hair deserves a clean brush. Using an unclean hairbrush can transfer accumulated oils, dirt and product residue back onto freshly washed hair.
- Bacteria aren't always visible. Even when your hairbrush looks clean, microorganisms can still be present on the surface.
- Product build-up affects your routine. Residue trapped between bristles can transfer back onto your hair, leaving it feeling less fresh and contributing to unwanted build-up.
- Your hairbrush is part of your haircare routine. Your hairbrush deserves the same attention as the haircare products you use every day.
KILLABRUSH® features built-in antimicrobial technology, clinically tested to eliminate up to 99.9% of surface bacteria on the brush, supporting better brush hygiene between cleans.
Frequently asked questions
What makes KILLABRUSH® different from a regular hairbrush?
KILLABRUSH® combines KILLA® antimicrobial technology, built into the bristles, with flexible KILLA® BioBristle™ tips for gentle detangling. The bristle surface is clinically tested to eliminate up to 99.9% of surface bacteria on the brush, so it stays cleaner between washes than an ordinary brush.
What is KILLA® Technology and how does it work?
KILLA® Technology is an active antimicrobial technology embedded directly into the bristles during manufacturing. Unlike surface coatings, it is distributed throughout the structure of each bristle, working with every use to help reduce bacteria and fungi build up on the brush surface, supporting a cleaner brushing experience and a healthier scalp environment.
What is the active ingredient within KILLA® Technology?
KILLA® Technology is powered by BZK (Benzalkonium Chloride) an advanced antimicrobial ingredient clinically proven to inhibit the growth of bacteria, fungi and some viruses by disrupting their cell membranes. It is this ingredient that makes KILLA® Technology so effective at helping to maintain a cleaner brush surface with every use.
How does the antimicrobial protection help my scalp?
Your hairbrush touches your scalp every day. Over time it accumulates dead skin cells, natural oils and product residue, which transfers back onto the scalp with every stroke. KILLA® Technology works to reduce bacteria build up on the brush, helping to support a cleaner, healthier scalp between washes.
What are the benefits of KILLA® Technology?
KILLA® Technology works actively within every bristle to deliver meaningful hygiene benefits as part of your everyday brushing routine.
✓ Helps reduce bacterial growth on the bristles
✓ Supports a cleaner haircare routine
✓ Minimises the transfer of build up between brushings
✓ Helps keep the brush fresher between cleans
✓ Supports a healthier scalp environment
✓ Suitable for daily use on all hair types
How long does the antimicrobial protection last?
KILLA® Technology is designed to remain effective throughout the recommended 12 month lifespan of the brush. We recommend replacing your KILLABRUSH® after 12 months to maintain optimal hygiene and performance.
Will the protection wear off over time?
Laboratory tests confirm that the antimicrobial efficacy remains effective at both 6 months and 12 months of use. We recommend replacing your KILLABRUSH® after 12 months to maintain optimal hygiene and performance.
Has KILLA® Technology been tested?
Yes. It has been laboratory tested according to ISO 22196, the international standard for measuring antibacterial activity on plastic surfaces.
Who developed the technology?
KILLABRUSH® was developed over two years in partnership with British Medical Group and Chemical Intelligence, combining medical expertise with advanced antimicrobial science.
Do I still need to clean my KILLABRUSH®?
Yes. The antimicrobial technology keeps the bristle surface cleaner between washes, but trapped hair, oils and product residue should still be removed. We recommend a gentle clean every 1–2 weeks.
How do I clean my KILLABRUSH®?
Remove hair from the bristles, then gently wash with warm water and a small amount of mild shampoo. Rinse thoroughly and leave to dry naturally with bristles facing down. Avoid soaking or using harsh cleaning product
Can bacteria on my hairbrush really affect my scalp health?
Research shows the average hairbrush can harbour over one million bacteria. Without active protection, this transfers back onto the scalp with every use, potentially contributing to irritation and other scalp concerns. Scalp health is one of the fastest growing areas of consumer concern, ranking alongside hair loss prevention and breakage. KILLABRUSH® was designed to address this at its source.
Is KILLABRUSH® safe for sensitive scalps?
Yes. KILLA® BioBristle™ tips are smooth and flexible, designed to glide through hair without irritating the scalp. Suitable for all hair types including sensitive scalps. If you have a specific scalp condition, we recommend consulting a dermatologist or trichologist.
Is KILLABRUSH® suitable for all hair types?
Yes. KILLABRUSH® is designed for all hair types, including extensions. The flexible bristles and scalp-friendly design help reduce pulling and breakage.
Is KILLABRUSH® suitable for children?
Yes. The gentle, scalp friendly construction is suitable for all ages. KILLA® BioBristle™ tips are smooth and flexible, designed to glide through hair without snagging or irritating the scalp, making KILLABRUSH® a safe and comfortable choice for children and adults alike.
Can I use KILLABRUSH® on wet and dry hair?
Yes. Both brushes are designed for use on wet and dry hair.
Is KILLABRUSH® waterproof?
Yes. KILLABRUSH® can be used in the shower and is safe to use on wet hair.
What's the difference between the Original Paddle and Vented Blow Styler?
The Original Paddle has a wide, solid paddle surface for fast, even everyday detangling. The Vented Blow Styler has an open, vented design that lets air flow through while you blow-dry, for faster styling. Both feature KILLA® antimicrobial technology and KILLA® BioBristle™.
Is the Vented Blow Styler compatible with all hair dryers?
Yes. The open vented design works alongside any standard hair dryer, allowing airflow to pass through the brush for faster, more controlled styling.
Where is KILLABRUSH® manufactured?
KILLABRUSH® is proudly manufactured in the United Kingdom, supporting British innovation and quality craftsmanship.Who are British Medical Group and Chemical Intelligence?
They are our expert development partners. British Medical Group validated the hygiene and scalp health benefits, while Chemical Intelligence led the technical formulation and testing of KILLA® Technology. Every claim we make is grounded in science, testing and expert knowledge.
What makes KILLABRUSH® different from other hairbrushes?
The hairbrush has seen very little innovation for almost 20 years. KILLABRUSH® changes that. It is the world's first active antimicrobial hairbrush, with KILLA® Technology embedded throughout every bristle from the point of manufacture. Not a cosmetic upgrade. A scientifically engineered hygiene solution.
