Our Mission

We thought the brush could do more.

KILLABRUSH began with a simple frustration and an unlikely partnership and a belief that the most-used tool in your routine had been overlooked for far too long.

Why We Exist

To raise the standard of everyday hygiene - starting with the hairbrush.

The hairbrush hasn’t fundamentally changed in decades. It’s warm, often damp, in daily contact with your scalp and skin - and yet it’s the one tool almost no one thinks about. We set out to change that: to build hygiene into the brush itself, so that doing better takes no extra effort at all.

The Origin

It started with an uncomfortable question.

Penelope had spent years behind the chair, and Matt had spent years working with advanced materials. When the two got talking, one question kept coming back: if we obsess over what we put on our hair, why do we ignore the thing we drag through it every single day?

The honest answer was that no one had built a better option. Cleaning a brush helps, but it doesn’t solve the underlying problem - and a coating sprayed on the outside simply wears away. The pair became convinced the answer had to live inside the bristle. That conviction became BioBristle™, and BioBristle™ became KILLABRUSH.

The Founders

Two perspectives, one obsession.

CEO & Co-Founder

Penelope Cheshire

Penelope’s career began in the professional hair trade, where she built a reputation for meticulous, considered work and a deep care for her clients. Years of hands-on experience gave her something no lab could: an instinct for the small details that make a real difference in everyday haircare - and a front-row view of the hygiene gap nobody was addressing.

She brings the human side of KILLABRUSH: how a brush feels, how people actually use it, and why the experience has to be as considered as the technology inside it.

COO & Co-Founder

Matt Lumb

Matt comes from a background in finance, with a speciality in product design and materials, with a long-held belief that the best solutions are engineered in from the start rather than added on at the end. Where others saw a finished category, he saw an open problem: how do you make a bristle that actively works against the bacteria it meets every day - and keeps working?

He leads the science and engineering behind BioBristle™, turning a stubborn question into a tested, repeatable technology.

Why It Matters

Hygiene is the next frontier in haircare.

We didn’t set out to make another brush. We set out to start a category.

A daily-contact tool

Your brush touches your scalp, hair and skin every day — yet it’s rarely cleaned and never designed for hygiene. That’s a gap worth closing.

An industry that stood still

Haircare has innovated everywhere except the tools. We think the brush deserves the same rigour as the products you trust on your hair.

Built in, not bolted on

By engineering protection into the bristle itself, we make the better choice the effortless one — no routine, no extra steps, no compromise.

“We wanted to make the most hygienic everyday object you own, and make it something you’re proud to leave on the side.”
